We all thought it couldn't happen again - reasonable weather leading up to the Festival, with storms and tempest during the event.
Well, it could. And it Did.
The forecast was poor as we set up on Thurs/Fri/Sat, but we convinced ourselves the weather reports were exaggerating, and that we could live with a 'bit of rain'.
The site was ready early, in fact we could have 'opened for business' by lunchtime.
Sunday dawned wet. It rained. The showers were heavy, and in between the showers we had steady rain. Nevertheless, a few hardy souls braved the elements to support the event, and in fact we had a steady trickle of visitors in the afternoon, when the rain eased. Luckily it wasn't as windy as last year, so the marquees stayed in place (except one gazebo which was last seen heading for Aylesbury).
Monday was worse. It rained, we opened, then it rained some more. The mud was thick and interesting underfoot, and a number of attractions simply didn't get started. Then it rained some more. It was so miserable we actually stopped charging for entrance at 1 o'clock. We all hung on for the Grand Draw at 4 o'clock, then started the damp soggy process of clearing up.
Financially it is too early to say whether we made a profit. Hopefully we will at least break even. Watch this space!
Next year we WILL have good weather - won't we?
